Case Study: Personal Placement

Personal Placement wanted their website to have a more modern minimalist look. Their existing website was not mobile-friendly, so they also needed the design to be responsive. Plus, they wanted to add a “Featured Communities” section to make their website more informative. Project Phases

Our personalized website design and development process consist of 4 phases:

Phase 1: Project Strategy Discussion:

This project began with a kick-off meeting between Sara, our lead website designer / developer, and Linda, the owner of Personal Placement. During kick-off, we discussed Linda’s likes and dislikes regarding the existing site. We also reviewed examples site she provided and made note of some of her design preferences. Lastly, we acquired media assets for the site like: logos, images, content, et cetera.

Phase 2: Initial Design & Content Population:

The MIBS, Inc. team created a live development environment for the new Personal Placement website on our own site. Once the development site began to take shape, we shared the link to the development site with Linda. This allowed her to monitor our progress, provide feedback, and request changes to the design in real-time.

For this particular project the Personal Placement team decided they wanted to do a total rebrand. This included a new: logo, color palette, content, business cards, fonts, and email signatures. Our team worked directly with the Personal Placement team on every aspect of the rebrand.

After finalizing the new color scheme, logo, and site design, the MIBS team migrated content from the pre-existing website to the new site. We also uploaded any new content provided by Personal Placement staff. Communication between Sara and Linda continued throughout development, and requested modifications were addressed promptly.

Phase 3: Testing & Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

Our team considers SEO throughout all of our projects. It is not an afterthought, but rather it is at the forefront of everything we do. During the design phase of the project our team:

  • Ensures images have appropriate tags.
  • Checks all links to minimize redirects and avoid dead links and 404 pages.
  • Writes appropriate SEO pages titles and meta descriptions, using the keywords discovered in the planning phase.
  • Ensures all content and tags utilize appropriate keywords.
  • After the website launches our team also submits an XML sitemap file to major search engines for indexing.

We also prioritize website accessibility. During the design phase our team:

  • Makes sure that images have appropriate alternative text.
  • Creates a design that meets contrast requirements.
  • Conducts accessibility audits throughout development.
  • We also include accessibility best practices when training clients.

Beyond SEO and accessibility this phase of the project also includes site functionality, user-acceptance, and mobile-usability testing.

Phase 4: Website Training & Launch:

For this project training we provided training before the new site launched. Linda attended the training, which was conducted by Sara via a screen-share meeting. We also provided a customized training document for Personal Placement staff to reference in the future. During training we encourage clients to ask as many questions as they want, and we do our best to answer them all.

Once we completed the training, and the design and content of the website were deemed final by Personal Placement, we scheduled and scheduled and executed the website launch date.
