Use Your Website to Encourage Charitable Giving

Online donations are an important part of funding for any non-profit organization. Not only do they help you save time and money, but allowing donors to give online also helps improve donor relations. Statistics from 2018 show that 51% of donors who make $200,000 or more a year prefer to give online. Additionally, 54% of donors worldwide also prefer giving online.

By adding a few simple features to your website, you can increase your revenue by 23%

Adding Donation Features:

Encourage your audience to make donations on your website by adding these features to your site:

The UWLS site features donation buttons that can be accessed from an page on the site.

Call-To-Action:

Place call-to-action buttons prominently throughout the website. One way to do this is to place  donation buttons in the website header. This makes it easy for people to make donations from any page on the website. So, someone reading about your work can decide they want to give and do it without any hassle.

Pre-Filled Forms:

Pre-populate your donation page with suggested donation amounts. Not only does this make it easier for people to decide how much they want to give, it also encourages them to donate a certain, standard, amount.

Example of an online impact calculator from the Lake Cares Food Pantry website.

The Lake Cares Food Pantry site features an impact calculator to encourage giving.

Impact Calculator:

An impact calculator allows users to enter a dollar amount into the calculator and see what your organization can accomplish with that money. For example, if a user enters an amount of $10 into the impact calculator they can see how many meals, textbooks, classes, and more are provided with that donation.

Reoccurring Donations:

Give donors the option of making regular, automatic payments every month. You can an enhance this feature by allowing donors to select an automatic payments option. Or, you can also have automatic payments selected as the form default.

Perfecting Your Website:

Not only is it important for your website to have easy-to-use donation features, but your website also needs to be 100% user-friendly. A user-friendly non-profit website must include:

  • A mobile-friendly design
  • An easy-to-navigate menu structure
  • Clear calls-to-action
  • Easy-to-use online fillable forms
  • Accessible information.
